I love travel - anywhere warm and exotic will do - and writing all kinds of stuff, especially when someone wants to publish it . It's for all the usual reasons, mostly to do with escaping from something. I started writing short stories and serials for women's magazines under several pen-names while teaching because I didn't want my students' mothers finding out what I did in my spare time while they were at the hairdresser's. It was that kind of school, and not a bit like teaching in Nigeria and Zambia for almost ten years while having three children.

But I soon found that one novel ('TIGER COUNTRY', an adventure/ romance set in Sri Lanka), a book for beginner writers called 'HOW TO TURN YOUR HOLIDAYS INTO POPULAR FICTION', some TV work and over a hundred short stories and serials didn't get me out of the house enough.

Then a writing buddy - Cathy Smith, with her own page on Suite101 - suggested Kate should try travel writing. Thanks, Cathy.

So, over a hundred travel and travel-related features later, maybe the BA in Geography and Anthropology and all that heat and dust weren't wasted after all. Some of it is on my website, www.sales-travelfeatures.co.uk

I love tutoring a group of aspiring writers at home when II'm not bunking off somewhere, and I still entertain fantasies that my 2 novels,' TIGER COUNTRY' (adventure/romance set in London and Sri Lanka and London) and 'THE WINE IS RED' (the novel I always wanted to write, set in today's troubled Nigeria and straight from the heart) will find some more readers on Amazon.co.uk (search under Kate Nivison, rather than titles).

My latest book 'TRAVELLING LIGHT - short stories and travel writing to take you away from it all', (also on Amazon.co.uk as above) is a 'good holiday read' collection of my own published favourite fiction and features, all on a theme of travel.
